Incompatible Pets

Check out this video. This is an example of incompatible pets. The people who made the video have cats and there is a turtle in the garden which stakes out his territory and chases them around the yard. He nips at them to make them leave his area and they run off with no real ability to fight back because he has a shell to protect himself. The poor cats just want to lounge around in the garden area and all their efforts to relax are thwarted by the turtle sentry of the back yard. It's kinda cute cause I've never seen such a bold turtle. He must have been a dog in a past life.

Skye's Journal

Hello world. It's been a while since you've seen me. My mom has stopped traveling for a bit of time but now she's back at it. The petsitter came tonight and I let her pet me. I met her at the top of the stairs along with Tiger Lily. I ate a little and then after staring at the pet sitter I decided to go upstairs to hide in my regular spot. Talk to ya tomorrow.

Sara Lou's Journal

Hello Electronic World!! I'm the new little buddy that Winnie has. I moved into the house a few weeks ago and I've finally made myself right at home. I'm still not used to the pet sitter though. She bugs me out cause I'm not used to people being in here besides mom and her housemate who lives upstairs. I ignored the petsitter the first time she came to visit me when my mom was here because she scared me. I ran and hid under the bed. When the petsitter came by herself last night I ran off again and made sure I was no where to be seen. This morning on the other hand was a different story. I came out into the dining room and when she slowly walked into the room I ran off to the corner but I didn't leave all together because I wanted to see if she would do like my mom and play chase the rope with me. Of course she did!! These humans are so easily entertained. Well I guess that's all I have to say this morning. See ya next time. Maybe I'll get some pictures taken by then.

Winnie's Check In

Hello All! It's been a while since you've heard from me. My mom has been busy so she hasn't made it out of town. First of all I should tell you about Mary Lou. She passed away from complications of elderliness and city veterinarians. I miss her a lot and so does my mom. Mom burried her next to Ms. Scarlett near the bedroom window so I could sit there and visit them when I wanted to. Mom stayed longer with me before traveling this time so I could get used to Mary Lou being gone. Eventually, she brought home a new little friend for me. My new friend is named Sara Lou. She's cute I guess but she has all sorts of issues because she was a little wild rescue cat. When she got here she had bad gingivitis breath, tapeworms, ear mites, and who knows what else. She's better now. She's little bitty compared to me and she's just a kitten. She was malnourished so we thought she was only about 6 months old but the vet's tell us she's actually a year old. I feel sorry for her but don't let her know that or it will ruin my image with her. I've been hissing now and then just to let her know I'm the boss.

Say Goodbye to Archie & Cosmo

Over the St. Patrick's Day weekend I had to say goodbye to Archie and Cosmo. They moved to Connecticut. Their mom had to go their for work. I was hired to fly to New York City with them to make sure they arrived there safely. Their mom and I took them on the plane as carry on and tucked them on the floor below our seats. It was stressful for all involved cause of course no one likes to move and I don't know too many cats that enjoy flying. It all worked out well in the end though. I got to have a whole day to myself in New York before leaving the next day and Coz and Archie's mom was GREAT enough to get me a hotel for the night and pay for all my food and taxi's. I was only 4 blocks from the World Trade Center site and I got to eat my first "real" New York Pizza fully equipped with garlic rolls. WOOOOO HOOOOOO for New York Pizza is all I have to say. Anyway I'll stop the rant for now.

Meet Mary Lou

This is Mary Lou. I will be taking care of her starting on Friday night. She has a cute little meow that sounds like a duck or something. Imagine a cat doing an impression of Donald Duck and that is what she sounds like. It's funny. She has gingivitis, kidney disease, frequent urinary tract infections, a bit of senility and who knows what else. She takes all sorts of medicine and like most of our worlds elderly she is heavily medicated. (She's elderly in cat years)

Pet Spa My Ass!!!

Watch this video. It is a "pet spa" allegedly. I don't know about you but when I go to the spa no one traps me in a washing machine without my knowledge and tries to drown me. I am exaggerating of course but this is not the machine to put your cat in. Please visit the website and protest this thing. What ever pet supplies store has this in it is in need of a little protest as well.

The video shows a cat being placed in the "spa" and then washed while it jumps and begs to be free from the whole event. The cat survives uninjured but I believe the machine is cruel. If you are too lazy to wash your animal then pay for a professional to do it please either that or deal with your animal the way he/she is stinky and all.

By the way cats don't need baths they wash themselves. Dogs are a different story all together-with them you have to pay attention to the breed or you'll cause all sorts of skin problems. For example Airdale Terriers should not be washed as often as some other dogs and so on.

Hugo's Diary

Today the pet sitter came. It was her first day for this particular stint. She came in for the evening meal around 630pm and then she was only here for about 10 minutes before she left. She came back around 9:30 in time to give me my insulin shot and then she was here for the night after that. She gave me my shot and then afterward when she went to throw the needle away she noticed that my mom had left her a stack of gifts. She opened the first one up and it was a 15 dollar gift card for itunes. She said at first she was wondering whether or not she could use it or not since she didn't know how it all worked. Before opening the next thing she called her girlfriend so she could give the play by play of her gift opening. She opened the second one and it was some chocolates a coffee mug and some catnip cigars for her cats. After that she went for the next box and she started freaking out. It was an ipod shuffle. She didn't know what to do with herself. She almost didn't open the rest of the gifts. Finally she contained herself and opened up the last two. One was a pair of house shoes which she needed because the other two pairs she has are falling apart due to age and Buddy chewing on them. The other was a down vest from Lands End. Finally she was done and then after talking with her girlfriend for a while she called my mom and I could hear her going on and on about the great gifts she had gotten. When she got off the phone with my mom she tole Bea and I about how great our mom is. (Like we didn't already know that!!) She said that every single year mom gets her just the right gifts. She said there has never been anything my mom gave her that she wanted to give to someone else in a regifting. She said that even if it was something she never knew she wanted that when she got it from my mom it was always perfect. She said she wished her own family took the time to pay attention in the few conversations they have with her enough that when they gave her something she felt like they were really paying attention. I feel sorry for her sometimes because she's stuck with us for Christmas but she told me that it's kinda boring with her family and it's colder where they are. She said that outside her mom she feels like Bea and I know her better and love her more anyway. She said every one else loves who they wished she'd become. I think she's become great if you want to know my opinion!! Who else can understand kitty speak as well as she can? No One That's Who!!!!! She's a keeper. I hope when mom moves she takes the pet sitter with her. If not she may have to fly her in for any of the times she's out of town. Well I'd better go I can feel another howling while I pee episode coming on.

Skye's Diary

All is the same as it always is when the pet sitter comes. Same routine, same food, same litter box, same same same same same. I don't know what I expect really it's just a boring life I lead. I roam around the house my human bought for me and I sleep where I feel like sleeping. I avoid the pet sitter when she comes and I just make sure to stay close to her in case she does something to Tiger Lily and then I can come to the rescue. Tiger Lily is happy. The pet sitter comes in and then before doing anything else she always lets Tiger Lily sniff her hands. Tiger Lily likes it because she gets to see where the pet sitter has been. She told me today that she smelled like a spay and neuter surgery and I told Tiger Lily that I remembered the pet sitter blogging about getting her cats fixed. I felt sorry for them but the pet sitter said it had to be done. Now they have to wear one of those cone things on their heads. The pet sitter says it's for their own good and all I can say is I'm glad it's not me.

A Special Christmas Story About A Rescued Pet

Check out this story about "Sunshine" the little Chihuahua who was rescued by a girl in college. It is a sweet story Sunshine made it through multiple health problems and a big rain storm and in the end ate all the cookies left for Santa under the tree.

It's Official There Are No New Kittens To Report At My House

Wednesday Samson and Delila got their precious parts snipped out. They have been de-jeweled. The family jewels removed and discarded who knows where. I know I am officially a mom now because of how sad I am. I know it had to be done but waa waa it wasn't easy. First the poor little rascals had to go without food from midnight the night before until they got home at 630 the day of the surgery. As if that isn't torture enought they had to endure the car ride there and they were the most well behaved and quiet little guys you've ever seen. When we got into the vet they stayed quiet the whole time despite all the funky smells wafting around that place. It smelled of dogs and cats and who knows what else, but they weren't afraid of any of it thanks to Rocky and Buddy coming to the house. Dogs don't scare them they think dogs are toys and they try to whack at their ears. Little dogs get freaked out by the kitties because they are so bold to come give the little ruffsters a sniff over. Any way when I picked them up Samson was as quiet as could be and Delila was too until she had to sit in the cold for too long while I opened the car door. She moaned in pain and discomfort letting me know to hurry up. The whole way in the car if we hit a bump or anything she just moaned and cried. I felt so bad for her. I was afraid they were going to hate me for the torture of depriving them with food and then taking them to get mutilated. When we got home I let them out and it seemed as if they were nervous that something was going to come out and grab them. When they calmed down Samson ran all around the house trying to eat any thing that was on the floor. I tended to poor little Delila and then realized that if I didn't feed them Samson was going to choke himself on something eventually. I fed the little buggars and then Delila started to lick her incision and bite at the stitches. It was driving her nuts because even squirting her didn't stop the nibbling and after a dousing of water I had to wrap her in a towel and protect her from herself. I didn't have an E-Collar so I was clueless on what to do. Especially since the stores were all closed. I ended up finding the last remaining paper plate in my house and I fashioned it into a cone and cut a hole in it for her little head to fit. I put it on her and taped it together with scotch tape. She figured out how to make my cheap little dollar store plate bend so she could reach her new chew toy and went at it again. I had to get a few old chopsticks that I had and break them in pieces to use as a splint for the paper plate. I taped the sticks all around the plate and then she looked even more hilarious with all this wood and paper and scotch tape around her head. She didn't have any periferal vision after that so she marched around the house lifting her little paws up like a German Soldier. I took a picture with my camera but I don't have a digital so we'll have to wait for the prints if you want to see the pics. I will post them as soon as they come up. I got her a real E-collar the next morning and she was very patient while waiting for the cutting to complete. Apparently she learned from her experience the day before that you shouldn't wiggle too much when a sharp object is near you. In the mean time Samson is running around like a lunatic with all sorts of energy. I was told he'd be more calm but that was a lie cause he is psycho now. Running and climbing and snuggling and wrestling. I know when I have human children I'll never have them fixed or I'll go nuts with all the energy they'll have. LOL

Potential Kittens Available

Hello All. Announcement is that I have been a bad cat mom. I have two stray kitties that I have had for a couple of months now. They are supposedly less than 6 months old which supposedly means that they can't mate successfully but they are starting to mock the actions of "doing the do". So I have put a call in to the local spay and neuter clinic but I will not be getting an appointment for a while so just in case there are kitties on the way keep in mind all of the people that you know who have been thinking of getting a cat. Anyway wish me luck, give me prayers, keep me in your thoughts or whatever it is you do for that kind of stuff so that I can get a quick appointment that costs little tiny amounts of money.

The Importance Of Organic Pet Food

The fab 5 major pet food manufacturers would have you believe that cute little packaged servings of food served with love from you but the increase in pet health issues will tell you different. I recommend that all of you read the book "The Food Pets Die For" by Ann N. Martin. This book has great information on the most common pet foods and manufacturers. Actually it would be a great Christmas gift for your favorite petsitter since she has to go to the library to get it or read excerpts on line.

Organic And Natural Pet Food Defined

When reading labels on various foods it can get confusing. This site lists definitions of various terms that are commonly used to describe pet foods on the packaging. I believe this site also has pet products for sale that you can check out. If you find anything good let me know.

Organic Pet Food Gets Paws Up

Check out this USA Today article about the rise of organic pet food. Here are some excerpts from the article to whet your appetite. "Even Fido and Mittens are going organic...Organic pet food sales, up 63% last year, are growing at nearly 3 times the rate of human organic food sales, says the Organic Trade Association...Among all organic products - foods untouched by preservatives, pesticides, hormones and antibiotics - only sales of organic meats are growing faster...

Information About Organic Pet Foods

Hello All. I wanted to let you know that in the next few days and weeks I will be collecting information on organic pet foods for you. I will be purchasing and receiving samples of each of the pet foods that I am planning to research and I will be rating them over time for you. I will also be listing ingredients for you in case you have something you don't want your cat or dog to eat. In the end I hope this will enable you to make better choices about the food your animals will be eating. I come from farm country and I have found there to be a vast difference between country animals and city animals. In the country animals are a way of life and making a living for the people who own them and the job of the vet is to help the farmer make money and keep entire herds of animals alive and healthy. In the city animals are a way of life and making a living for the vet and the job of the vet is to keep your pet alive long enough to milk you of all the money you can give them because of the ailments that they have from the nutrient deficiencies caused by the psuedo food and over medication of the poor little guys. You may ask whether or not my opinion is based on fact or simple bias. Take it from someone who has grown up from birth caring for and medicating a variety of animals small and large this is the way of the pet world. Check the cost of medical care in cities vs. rural areas and you will see that the vets in the city make a great living while vets in the rural areas live right near the same lifestyle of the farmer. This is why I will be talking the next few entries about organic foods for your pet. Organic foods have not been processed to remove the good stuff along with the bad. I figure if you're gonna spend money at the vet then you could reduce the vet bill and increase the food bill the same amount. Take the petsitter challenge and we'll see if it works.

Horrific Puppy Torture Case Being Heard In Atlanta Courts

There is a case in the court system currently where two teenage boys have been accused of torturing a small puppy by (among other things) cooking it live in a gas oven. Following are some snips from the article about the case. "Jurors recoiled in horror and wiped their eyes Thursday as prosecutors produced a series of grisly photos of a tiny puppy tortured and then killed in a gas oven...The blood stained oven showed showed scratch marks on the door and walls, indicating that the young dog - it's mouth and feet duct taped - struggled before it died...Beige paint also covered the puppy and the inside of the oven, a final act of cruelty before the animal was tossed into the stove..." The puppy was only 3 months old. (as if age makes a difference in the effect of paint, tape, cooking while live). This is a horrific case and I'm sooooo glad I didn't get called to be on the jury for this one. If I had I'm sure that they would have releived me of my duties pretty quickly because #1 I am a petsitter; #2 I think who ever is guilty should receive the same punishment as they dished out and #3 I would have jumped from the jury box and choked the shit out of the little punk bastards who were found guilty. All good reasons for the defense to decide against me as a juror.

Archie's Diary

Today the petsitter came and said that it was weird cause there was nothing in the mail box. She noticed the mailbox door was a bit opened and the neighbor's box was completely opened and neither looked like they had mail in them. The other boxes up and down the street seemed to have their doors shut. Who knows it must be that the mail man is running late today. We ate our wet food and then I did our normal run around the house for a bit of exercise before sleeping, but this time Cosmo just sat there watching TV on the chair with the petsitter. I was kind of mad at them so I howled and talked to them the whole time I ran around. The petsitter said she thought I would do good with a Bach Flower Essence shot every now and then to calm me down. She said that animals that eat weird stuff are usually suffering from a disease called Pica which will eventually become some version of diabetes unless it is taken care of and that the cure for Pica is supplements of Chromium and Vanadium. She said this would cure Pica and Diabetes both and that there are plenty of studies to show it. Any way the point is that at first she thought maybe I needed to have those but after watching me run around she thinks it's more of a nervous sort of thing. She said she has multiple clients with dogs and cats who act just like me and that they are helped with Rescue Remedy or something else helpful for nervousness. The petsitter said she found another thing that she is going to try with her cats it's called the Feliway Diffuser. You plug it in when you want to help relieve stress for your kitty. She babysits dogs every once in a while for her best friend TBLJ and she said she may buy one of these things to help the kitties cope with the changes. She said she may recommend it to all her clients if it works. It sounds like it would be perfect to plug in while the petsitter is visiting or when I act kind of funny.
